Multi-Engine Rating

A multi-engine rating is an additional certification that allows a pilot to operate aircraft with more than one engine. While a private or commercial pilot’s license may cover single-engine planes, a multi-engine rating is required to legally fly aircraft with multiple engines, such as twin-engine airplanes. This rating involves specialized training, including flight time with a certified instructor, to ensure the pilot can handle the complexities of managing two engines, such as engine failure procedures, weight and balance considerations, and performance calculations. Pilots must demonstrate their ability to safely operate the aircraft in a variety of conditions, and the rating is often essential for those looking to work with airlines or flight schools, as many commercial aircraft are multi-engine.
